Coates Hire assistance guides global operator’s choice

Coates Hire played a key role in a team at BAE Systems Maritime receiving an internal award recognising its safety standard in the Embracing Responsible Behaviour category, according to a message of thanks from Procurement Officer Charlie Aquilina.
“This award would not have been possible without you and the Coates Hire management team’s support for this great initiative to assist all Australian EWP users,” he wrote to Coates Hire Business Development Manager, Government & Utilities, Joe Tyrrell.
BAE Systems is Australia’s leading defence and security company. It is the prime contractor for the supply and integration of two Canberra Class Amphibious Assault ships. These ships were built for the Australian Navy at the company’s shipyard at Williamstown in Melbourne.
In response to a global mandate to upgrade safety on its boom lifts BAE Systems approached its different hire partners to find a crush protection/secondary guarding solution.
“What we did in Victoria, where we manage the account nationally, was host a day when we took BAE Systems representatives to visit three OEMs, each providers of secondary guard solutions, and they liked JLG Skyguard,” Tyrrell explains. “The South Business Unit facilitated the Skyguard secondary guarding being fitted to JLG units at the Williamstown shipyard.”
He says the message of appreciation was in response to Coates Hire providing safety solution options that met BAE Systems secondary guarding mandate. “They saw the Skyguard as being the safest and most effective choice.”
