COATES HIRE DONATION ENSURES BABIES ARE TREATED LOCALLY
9 April 2014
Bunbury Hospital is about to receive a humidification system thanks to the generosity of locals who attended a fundraising BBQ arranged by Coates Hire.
The purchase of the humidification system means more babies can receive treatment locally, rather than being separated from their mothers and transferred to Perth.
The Bunbury community certainly turned out to support the fundraising event, with more than 150 people dropping by to make a donation and grab a snag from the BBQ.
Bunbury Hospital’s Acting Nurse Manager Katrina Jones said that the staff and patients at the Maternity Unit wished to sincerely thank Coates Hire for their generous donation and the support that they have provided to the women, newborns and their families of the South West.
“Following birth some of our newborns struggle with their adaption to life outside the womb and they require respiratory support while their lungs and airways mature enough to breath adequately on their own,” said Katrina.
“The Humidification system is designed to moisten the oxygen and air that is given to these special babies during this time. An immature airway is a fragile mechanism reliant on a delicate balance of temperature and humidity. It doesn’t reach maturity until age two.
“Respiratory interventions without humidity impede that infant's development and exacerbate the risks of medical interventions.
“Humidified therapy, provided by this system, helps to emulate the natural balance that occurs in mature infant lungs. This in turn ensures that precious infant energy is used as nature intended: for growth and development.
“By utilizing the Humidification system, we are able to keep a lot more babies in Bunbury and therefore closer to their families.
“This in itself is a wonderful reason for having this equipment and why the families and staff of the Maternity Unit are thankful for the generous donation of Coates Hire. “
According to Coates Hire Sales & Marketing Manager – West, Jeff Butler, “today has been very successful day overall and fantastic to see the team pull together to assist the local community hospital.
The regions local businesses and tradies were quick to support the cause with around 20 of them opening accounts with Coates Hire.
The day was a lucky one for one local customer of Coates Hire, who won a double pass to the V8 Supercars at Barbagallo Raceway in Perth.
