The cars and the crowds will return in force to Australia this March, with Melbourne once again playing host to the first round of the FIA Formula One World Championship and Australian Grand Prix.
This year the Australian Grand Prix will be staged from March 14-18 at Albert Park, and will be the curtain raiser for another enthralling season of Formula One – the 78th time Australia has hosted the event since it was first run at Phillip Island way back in 1928.
If the Melbourne Cup is the race that stops a nation, then the Australian Grand Prix is the race that stops the world, with tens of millions of motor sports fans tuning in from around the globe to see five world champions, and two Aussies, line up on the starting grid in a bid to kick start their campaign to win the 2013 FIA Formula One World Championship crown.
In addition to the millions of television viewers around the world, up to 500,000 spectators from Australia and overseas are expected to descend on Albert Park to take in the spectacle, and cheer on legendary drivers including Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso, as well as Aussie favourites Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo.
Unsurprisingly, staging an event on this scale requires a huge logistical effort and many months of careful planning, and Coates Hire’s event management capabilities make it an ideal choice as the Official Equipment Hire Supplier to the Australian Grand Prix.
Coates Hire’s specialist event team has been working hand-in-hand with the Australian GP’s logistics and operations team to understand the contingencies and complex requirements of Albert Park, including everything from power generation, traffic and people management, lighting requirements, through to amenities and crowd control.
According to Coates Hire Chief Executive Officer, Leigh Ainsworth, motor racing and the Australian Grand Prix is a natural fit for Coates Hire’s business, and a logical extension of its partnership with the V8 Supercars Series.
“The F1 is a highly prestigious event in which Coates Hire plays an integral role in the actual success of the event both logistically and operationally,” Leigh explained.
“Formula One is an extremely complex event to supply to. And our event specialists are experts in bringing that event to life, working hand-in-hand with the Australian Grand Prix Corporation to make it happen, and we have done so for a number of years.
“The element of teamwork is an obvious value fit for Coates Hire, as is safety. In motor racing the focus on safety is paramount in this day and age, as it is for Coates Hire,” Leigh said.
“The other value fit of course is high performance, going the extra mile, and having the passion to deliver great results, which is a key part of our fabric at Coates Hire as well.”
