Coates Hire Racing Rookie Takes Bathurst!
11 October 2011
Garth Tander & Coates Hire Racing’s very own Nick Percat claimed a momentous victory at the SuperCheap Auto Bathurst 1000 on Sunday in a nailbiter ending that was nothing short of incredible.
In the end, it came down to about as much time as it takes to blink an eye – 0.2917s was the margin between team Tander/Percat and runners-up Lowndes /Skaife. The margin is now the closest in history between competing cars in the Bathurst 1000.
In a race where multiple records were being broken, Nick Percat is the first rookie to take a Bathurst victory since Jacky Ickx in 1977. Percat also cements his place in the history books as just the third rookie in history to win the race.
Nick Percat, as fans will be aware, is Coates Hire Racing’s driver competing in the Fujitsu Supercar series. As major sponsors of Nick, Walkinshaw Racing & HRT, Coates Hire is incredibly proud of what Nick has achieved in so little time.
En route to the great race, Nick Percat took time to partake in the ‘Road to Bathurst’ video diary just days before the event. Coates Hire staff and customers were thrilled to meet Nick as he visited Coates Hire locations on his journey. Expectations were high of this talented 22 year old, little did they know however, how thrilling the climax to the victory would be only days later!
Fresh off the victory, Nick will be back on the track for the Norton 360 Sandown Challenge 18-20 November.
