New Nifty Hybrid (Petrol+Electric) Access Gear
1 July 2011
Coates Hire has complemented its range of Nifty access equipment by purchasing the Nifty HeightRider 21 Hybrid AWD knuckle boom, the 210 Self Drive 4x4x4 All terrain and the versatile Track Drive 120T knuckle boom. The range is now available in NSW with other selected states to follow suit in the future.
The fleet additions ensure Coates Hire continues to offer the latest access equipment with the advanced features which customers increasingly expect.
The HeightRider 21 Hybrid and Self Drive 21 4x4x4 have been built using the latest state-of-the-art computer design programs, allowing them to be low in weight but still retain a robust build quality. The machines have an exceptional outreach of 12.60 m with a working weight in the basket of 225 kg.
The new Nifty HR 21 Hybrid All-Wheel-Drive (AWD) is a new generation, environmentally conscious work platform combining advanced power-source technology with versatile AWD.
In Electric-only mode the machine becomes a 'zero emission' machine that can work inside or out, cleanly and quietly in any environment.
On hybrid power, the machine allows the electric motor to automatically assist the diesel engine when required (such as climbing steep slopes), boosting the overall power available. The hybrid technology means the machine can use a much smaller Diesel engine – in this case a Kubota 722-18 hp Tier 4 – than would otherwise be required, reducing fuel consumption by up to 50 percent when compared to other machines and therefore greatly reducing running costs. The HR-21 Hybrid diesel’s catalytic converter exhaust purification system reduces CO/NOx, particulates and further reduces noise and emissions.
At all other times the electric motor channels excess power from the diesel engine back to the batteries, for when it is most needed. Nifty claims noise levels are up to 25 percent lower than equivalent conventional equipment – a major factor in sensitive locations.

Nifty will be fitting its SiOPS™ (Sustained Involuntary Operation Prevention System) to the 21 series. SiOPS™ is the latest award winning safety system from Nifty which has been developed to stop a possible crushing incident of the operator.
SiOPS™ reacts instantly when it senses the operator being forced onto the controls, interrupting all machine movement. The SIOPS™ System addresses a known contributing factor in trapping and crush incidents which gives the operator a vital second chance. Nifty ToughCage Technology will also be fitted to the 21 series ordered by Coates Hire.
Customer’s also benefit from a stronger more durable machine. Its tough, impact resistant composite base and larger cross-section steel cage give extra strength and durability, both protecting the operator and reducing the risk of damage to the cage.
As well as resisting damage the new ToughCage absorbs much of the force of an impact, preventing damage to the boom. Damaged rails can be replaced separately for a fast low cost repair.
