Disappointing end to a promising weekend for Percat
8 May 2012
After enjoying a much deserved victory in Race 2 of the Dunlop Series at Barbagallo Raceway on Saturday, Coates Hire Racing’s Nick Percat was keen to repeat the feat in Sunday's final race of the weekend.
Starting the 28-lap sprint in seventh, Percat was determined to quickly move forward however confusion over the release of the Safety Car part way through the first lap caused Percat to ease off.
When the SC stand-by call was rescinded, Percat found himself in a fight for position as the last corner of the first lap approached.
What followed was an altercation with Marcus Zukanovic that resulted in the #222 Coates Hire Commodore sliding across the infield grass and making heavy impact with the pit-lane concrete wall – Percat’s race finished.
The team will now head back to their Clayton based workshop in order to carry out the necessary repairs in preparation for the next event.
The Dunlop Series will continue at the Sucrogen Townsville 400 from July 6-8.
