Coates Hire has recently announced significant support and a two-year sponsorship of BMD Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club. The $40,000 per annum agreement further cements the company’s ongoing support of surf lifesaving in Australia and the importance of both safety and community interaction.
Naming rights sponsor of the Northcliffe club and key customer of Coates Hire; BMD Group also embodies core values shared by Coates Hire and the club. A Queensland family business, since its establishment in 1979 it has grown to become one of Australia’s largest privately owned companies engaged in engineering design, construction and land development, and as a partner in urban development, transport infrastructure projects and the resources and energy sectors.
Coates Hire has been part of BMD’s journey and the long-term relationship means that it is a trusted partner in undertakings such as the Port of Melbourne’s new International Container Terminal and the Legacy Way Tunnel in Brisbane, from the pre-tender phase through to delivery.
“The longstanding relationship with BMD is based on Coates Hire supporting their projects nationally. They know we are capable of assisting them to deliver projects on time and under budget, and see Coates Hire as an integral part of their success,” Michael Byrne, Coates Hire CEO says.
Coates Hire also has a strong partnership with Surf Life Saving Australia. The company last year entered into a three-year naming rights agreement for the iconic Coolangatta Gold surf sports endurance race.
“I’m looking forward to the Gold Coast turning to more of a bright orange…” Coates Hire CEO Michael Byrne quipped, and this latest move is set to achieve just that but, more importantly, the Coates Hire sponsorship will enable BMD Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club to build on its essential services and membership.
“This support from Coates Hire will assist with initiatives we want to continue and maintain at the club: a strong junior program to increase the ongoing education and development of young people, and engagement with our local community,” BMD Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club President David Shields explains.
He says Coates Hire shares the club’s belief that in addition to providing a vital water safety service, the development of members, as individuals and whole family units, and their involvement in the club benefits the entire community at large.
“As well as learning the skills and ability to actually save lives, in a controlled and supervised environment, kids from the ages of five to 17 get a sense of belonging,” he says, adding, “The unique thing about surf lifesaving is that it requires involvement from the parents of the Nippers, and we find that they continue to be involved with the club through volunteering. It’s the fun and camaraderie. It’s a very unique aspect to the community service that we provide.” Shields says that this social aspect has been part of the surf lifesaving movement since it was established 100 years ago for the purpose of preventing drownings.
The support provided by Coates Hire will contribute to providing more lifesaving equipment and resources, key items such as rescue tubes, boards, inflatable rescue boats and motors.
The two companies’ support of BMD Northcliffe Surf Life Saving Club shows their shared values of safety and community goes beyond day-to-day business.
