I’m really pumped to head to the west this weekend for the Perth SuperSprint. It's one of the shorter tracks that we go to, and also one of the lowest grip circuits. Managing the soft tyres on the abrasive track surface will be one of the keys to getting a good result there.
We had a good round at Barbagallo Raceway last year, finishing eighth in the final race on Sunday.
The #222 Commodore has typically shown good pace there, so I’m hopeful we can roll the car out of the truck and get dialled in to the track pretty quickly during our three practice sessions.
Last weekend I competed in the annual Porsche Rennsport Motor Racing Festival in Sydney, which doubled as the third round of the Carrera Cup Australia championship.
I teamed up again with Shane Smollen for the two hour-long endurance races. We were pretty happy to finish second outright for the weekend! Anytime you get a podium finish it’s a good day at the track.
Apart from racing, I’ve been focused on my new training program with personal trainer Heath Meldrum. He’s been the team (LDM’s) trainer for a while now, but I’ve just recently started working with him individually.
He’s a champion stand up paddle boarder and has competed in the world championships in Hawaii, so it’s good to do some different types of cross training- using different muscles and techniques.
I’m confident that we will be competitive in Perth and I think we can definitely fight for a top ten result. It’s not a circuit where you rely heavily on horsepower, so any deficit we have in engine power shouldn’t disadvantage us too much.
It will be a challenging weekend, but I’m aiming to bring the car home inside the top ten by the end of Sunday.
A slightly unusual challenge I’ll be taking on is copping a pie to the face!
It’s part of the Ultimate Pie Challenge which is aimed at raising funds for the Childhood Cancer Association. If you’re at the track come and watch on Saturday at 9.30am, and either way please donate at https://piechallenge.everydayhero.com/au/nick-percat .
