On the spot
18 March 2016
The Gympie Coates Hire branch was perfectly positioned to service one of Queensland’s largest infrastructure projects, the Cooroy to Curra Upgrade along the Bruce Highway. The large-scale upgrade commenced in 2009 and now with Sections A and B completed, work on the $26 million 3 kilometre Early Works Section C is under way — and it is right on the doorstep of the Gympie branch, according to Geographical Account Manager Chris Zillmann.
The section contains a number of black spots and subsequently has been fast-tracked due to these safety imperatives. The highway will be widened, with a raised median strip and dedicated right turn, left turn and protected entry lanes at key points.
In addition to funding by the Federal Government and Queensland Government, Safer Roads Sooner will also contribute to the cost of the upgrade of the Bruce Highway and Venardos Avenue Intersection.
With completion of this Early Works package slated for Christmas 2015, contractors BMD Constructions and Dundrum have utilised equipment from the entire Coates Hire product range, particularly for compaction, traffic and lighting.
The Gympie branch has formed a strong relationship with all the contractors involved and has enjoyed extensive exposure due to its convenient location and the loyalty shown to Coates Hire by BMD and Dundrum, Zillmann stated.
In 2016 work will start on Section C, projected to take about three years, then Section D, running until 2020.
