Percat and Jane Celebrate Third at Rennsport
27 May 2013
Nick Percat and Rodney Jane driving the Coates Hire Racing entry finished third overall at the Porsche Rennsport Festival at Sydney Motorsport Park.
The pair stormed through the field to win the opening 60-minute race and backed it up with a strong eighth place in the second race.
After taking over from Jane in the first race, Percat put in an inspired drive and pounced on leader Adam Gowans with seconds remaining, to win in the first one-hour enduro, which doubled as round three of the Australian Carrera Cup Championship. Luke Youlden crossed the line in third place.
Jane, who was celebrating his 150th Carrera Cup race start, became the categories first Elite class winner in the mini-enduro format.
In the second 60-minute encounter Percat and Jane rolled the dice and chose a different tyre strategy as they tried to repeat their earlier victory.
However, they ended the race a solid eighth, to claim overall third place for the round in the Professional category. Jane finished the day second of the non-championship drivers.
Nick Percat: "The Coates Hire team worked brilliantly and all credit to them for giving us such a good car today, after a tough day yesterday.
"It was great to win the first-ever Porsche Carrera mini-enduro with Rod, (Jane). He did a great job all day and it was a fantastic way for him to celebrate his 150th start.
"We tried a bit of a risky strategy in the second race and it just didn’t work out as we hoped. But I am pleased to finish third for the round and close the gap to Craig Baird, and really looking forward to the next round in Townsville."
