Company background
Leighton Contractors has evolved dramatically from the early days of Stanley Leighton building houses and laying pipes on the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Scheme.
From building the first privately funded tollway in Australia, to the creation of the first major alliance project, they have become an industry leader through their ability to listen, adapt and reliably deliver.
Leighton Contractors are now part of Australia’s largest project development and contracting group. They build, maintain, operate, manage, service, finance and facilitate.
How Coates Hire has helped
Leighton required Hazard & Risk Assessment processes for their full fleet of high risk mobile gear. Every item of equipment going on site needed to covered by this assessment.
Coates Hire was able to provide Leighton with this full service.
In conjunction to working with Leighton, Coates Hire developed the Hazard & Risk Assessments (HRAs) and were able to roll out these processes for all their major sites i.e. Ballina, Kempsie, M2 Site.
This process also involved cross referencing engineering OEM instructions to make sure international and Australian compliances were met - by no means an easy task due to the sizeable length of OEM manuals and instructions which had to be summarised and made relevant for Leighton’s needs.
The detailed H&R assessment needed to be compliant across three major components:
- Transport
- Operation
- Maintenance of equipment
In short, Coates makes sure Leighton can deliver, operate and maintain a fleet for its whole lifecycle & operation.
We also provided Leighton with log books and a list of checks the user needs to do every day to adhere to compliance processes and overall safety. The logs also cover maintenance and service records for Coates Hire technician visits. Obviously because a lot is at stake with the creation of logs – detail is key and was stringently adhered to. This benchmark service is something Coates Hire is able to provide to its customers because of our years of experience and continually evolving safety measures compliant to industry standards and laws.
Coates’ safety capability reflects our strength in End-to-End project management. Our own proprietary Silver Service maintenance system is also based on objectives of safety and quality gear and involves the maintenance, testing and calibration of all equipment.
As well as large operators like Leighton, Coates also develops operating and safety instructions for small plants (i.e. small to medium sized customers). We can review large 50 page manuals and summarise them down to 3-5 pages, so customers know how to use equipment properly and safely. This is especially important for high risk applications.
