NICK PERCAT DARWIN TRIPLE CROWN PREVIEW

Hi everyone!

We’re back in the Top End for the annual Darwin Triple Crown this weekend. I love this event, and not just because it’s a nice escape from the Melbourne winter!  The locals always support this event and we’re always made to feel very welcome during our stay here in the Northern Territory.

The Hidden Valley circuit itself is quite technical- it’s pretty short with around a one minute ten second lap time- and it features the longest main straight anywhere we race in the country. It’s also one of the better passing opportunities around the circuit too.

This is one of my favourite tracks, and I’ve enjoyed racing here since I debuted in Aussie Racing Cars in 2006.  I then did a couple years of Formula Ford and went well in that category too, so I think it’s a layout of track that really seems to suit my driving style.
 
Practice on Friday is really important, because it’s all about prepping a quick car for the knockout qualifying format on Saturday and a Top Ten Shootout on Sunday. Our aim is to get the car sorted by Friday afternoon to make sure you’re in the top ten fastest.
 
This circuit is renowned for high tyre degradation so it’s a real advantage if you can avoid any extra track time and progress straight though to Q2. I got my first podium for Brad Jones Racing – finishing third in the Saturday race. It’s great to be running Dunlop colours back on car 8 again. It’s a standout livery and it will look even better if I can roll it into victory lane!
