Hi everyone!

This weekend’s Penrite Oil Sandown 500 concludes the competition for the Pirtek Endurance Cup. It’s the last Supercars endurance event, the last co-driver race of the season, and we finish off with a 500-kilometre race around the iconic Sandown Raceway.

To be honest it hasn’t been a ‘season of endurance’ to remember so far. Our best finish was a 10th place in Sunday’s race on the Gold Coast. The aim for us is to have a decent weekend, avoid any trouble and not sacrifice too many points.

I’m sitting 8th in the championship standings and my goal is to at least maintain that heading into the final round in Newcastle in a couple of weeks.

The format for this weekend is quite challenging, and different from any other race of the year.

Firstly, there is limited practice for the main drivers, with just one 30-minute session on Friday. This means the pressure will be on the co-drivers to do the bulk of the set-up work and get the car where it needs to be.

There’s a 20-minute qualifying session on Saturday, and where I qualify is where my co-driver Tim Blanchard will start the designated co-driver race. Where he finishes is where I start the regular drivers 60-kilometre race. Then where I finish that race is our grid position for the 500-kilometre race on Sunday. Phew!

It’s a progressive results-based qualifying, so my focus is on starting off with a good qualifying spot to give Tim the best chance to stay out of trouble in his 60-kilometre race. Then when Car 8 is handed over to me I just want to have a clean race and focus on a solid starting spot for the enduro on Sunday.

It looks like there might be a bit of rain around too which will spice things up!

Overall, I enjoy the event, especially as it’s a local one so I get to walk my dog Nelson in the mornings and stay in my own place each night.

Sandown is retro round, and although our livery is not officially a “retro” look, it’s very cool to have Fujitsu on Car 8.  They haven’t been on any Supercar for a while now, so it’s great to be able to represent their brand again.
