We head to Winton Raceway for another SuperSprint format this weekend. I always enjoy racing at this country Victorian circuit. It’s pretty unique to have a racetrack with a campground overlooking it.
We drive out onto the track for morning practice and there’s still smoke lingering from the overnight campfires… it’s certainly a different experience to most other circuits we race at! For the fans, how good must it be to wake up to the sound of Supercars! One day when I’m not racing I might go and camp and get a different perspective for a change!
Winton is our team’s home test track and the Brad Jones Racing workshop is not far up the road. BJR have had success there in the past, most recently in 2016 when Tim Slade scored his first career Supercars win.
I’ve finished every Supercars race I’ve started at Winton. Last year I finished tenth and 12th so we had solid pace, but not quite enough to run with the leaders.
I’m happy that we are going back to the 2016 spec tyre. Hopefully that translates to more pace for all three BJR cars. I’m confident that the combination of the ZB aero package, our new engine program and the different spec tyre will put us in good shape for the weekend.
It’s great to have Timken back on the car in the striking orange livery. The last time we ran this look was at Newcastle last year for the final round, and it got a really good response from the fans.
I’ve had podium finishes at Winton in Formula Ford, Carrera Cup and Super2. I’d love to add a Supercars trophy to the cabinet and spray some champagne on Saturday and Sunday afternoon!
