When Port Kembla livened-up the walls of its precinct, Coates Hire equipment elevated the artists.

Port Kembla, located in the heart of the Illawarra region, is typically associated with coal trains, steel works and - more recently – car-imports.

However, in mid-February it became the ‘tagging’ canvas of the Wonderwalls Festival, following on from the Festival’s successful campaign around Wollongong in 2018.

The Festival – run by the public art project management company, Verb Syndicate – featured 10 artists commissioned to produce mural art on the old buildings, with images that reflected on the history of Port Kembla.

Matt Herd, Coates Hire Regional Manager – NSW South Coast, says the artists worked on very large canvases and at height, and they needed the right gear for the job.

“The team at Coates Hire Port Kembla helped make it happen, providing the artists with enough elevation to work on their pieces,” says Matt.

Coates Hire provided the Festival with electric and diesel scissor lifts, diesel knuckle booms and trailer-mounted booms, giving the artists a safe platform and 24/7 support so they could do their best work and make downtown Port Kembla a visual attraction.

“We have an established relationship with Verb Syndicate and have hired gear to them on projects in the past,” says Matt. “Verb Syndicate and the artists have done a great job livening-up the Port and we’re pleased that Coates Hire was able to help-out.”
